Food fuels nearly every occasion known to man; weddings, dates, colleges, break times, and even funerals! Occasions are served with a plate of love, to make you feel at home with yourself. The Otherside travels through four states (Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala), sharing the stories of women that love to cook and feed their beloved ones. We intend to walk you through their journey of turning their passion into a booming business. This gargantuan palate of the south has mouth-watering deliciousness to offer across its plane!
My main focus was filmmaking, but I've also worked in the family restaurant business with my brother for two and a half years. It was a bar and Kitchen called the Otherside. Long after this, I stumbled upon a documentary called The Heat: A Kitchen (R)evolution, Directed by Maya Gallus. I realized that there were a heap of elements in the film to which I could relate.
I decided to talk about the various female frontrunners of south India, managing their eateries and their finances. With the commonality of food, womanhood, and love for Anthony Bourdain, I walked back into the world of restaurateurs, but this time, I carried a camera.
I walked through this world with a newfound love for delicacies, from sushis to biryani to chocolate factories. Subsequently, this documentary bloomed to life, taking on the title of the restaurant that I used to run with my brother Rohit Didige. With this film, I have the opportunity to present these voices to the rest of the world and open new doors of deliciousness for them to indulge in.
